Welcome to the Washington DC QUEER Tango Collective

Organized by LGBTQ+ tango dancers in the Washington, DC area, the DC Queer Tango Collective strives to create queer-centered spaces for learning and dancing social tango. We value community and coalition-building among underprivileged groups, and we welcome allies. All of our events are free of charge. We strive to create a space where members of the queer community can safely explore tango without preconceptions about gender and gender-based roles.

Saturday 10/25/25

Excited to announce we will be hosting the excellent tango instructor, dancer, and DJ Matías Donadío this coming Saturday, October 25, 2025. Details in the flyer below.

Matías will lead a workshop on tango musicality from 130pm to 3pm at our regular space in Montgomery College Silver Spring. The workshop will be in lieu of our regular classes.

Then that same evening, from 8-11pm Matías will spin the tunes as DJ for our QUEER MILONGA, from 8 to 11pm in the Cultural Arts Center Lounge.

We'll have a beginners' taster class pre milonga at 730pm. This event is free of charge, but do note that Matías is available for private lessons as well.

WEEKLY QUEER TANGO CLASSES AND PRÁCTICAS

Starting March 22, 2025, we will meet every week on Saturday afternoon for tango classes and a guided practica. The practicas are always free of charge and beginners are welcome, with more experienced dancers available to assist and guide newcomers. The practicas are held at the Dance Studio of Montgomery College Takoma Park Campus, located at 7995 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. The closest Metro station is Silver Spring on the Red Line, which is a 15-20 minute walk from the Campus.

For the first hour of our Saturday afternoon events, we typically hold a queer tango class, for beginners with little or no experience tango dancing. The rest of the time (until 430pm), we play tango music for practice, open to all dancers and dancers from the community at large. From time to time we hold special workshops during this time period. We host queer milongas (tango dance parties) from time to time in the DC area. All free of charge. Beginners welcome!

Transgender and non-binary people are essential, valued members of our community—they are our colleagues, friends, family, loved ones. We stand united in celebrating transgender and non-binary identity and in affirming the right of transgender and non-binary people everywhere to live with dignity, access health care, employment, safe housing and all other human rights. There is no queer, no LGB, no allyship without the T. Now more than ever, we come together in supportive community and look to a future where we all people are respected, protected, and free. We dance in the hope of a better future.
