Welcome to the Washington DC QUEER Tango Collective
Organized by LGBTQ+ tango dancers in the Washington, DC area, the DC Queer Tango Collective strives to create queer-centered spaces for learning and dancing social tango, for connecting and sharing with each other, and for building and nurturing our communities. All of our events are free of charge.
In our spaces, we acknowledge, respect and celerate the full rainbow of gender identity and expression, and we explore the joys of tango dancing without preconceptions about gender or gender-based roles.

New Beginners Class Series
3 Saturdays 1/10, 1/17, and 1/24
Start your Queer Tango journey with us in 2026! Jose and friends will lead a condensed three class beginners’ series. No partner or experience is needed. Learn the basics of tango walking, on cross and parallel systems, leading to the cross step, and simple pivoting and ocho steps. Classes are from 1:30pm to 3:00pm, on Saturdays January 10th, 17th, and 24th, followed by practice time until 5pm. The classes take place at Montgomery College Takoma Park/Silver Spring, 7995 Georgia Avenue, Second Floor Dance Studio (CU 205). Free parking is plentiful at the lot next to the building or in the garage across King Street. The Silver Spring Metro stop is a 15-20 minute walk. All classes are FREE of charge. Everyone is welcomed to our queer-centered space, where you “Come as you are! Dance as you wish!!!”

WEEKLY QUEER TANGO PRÁCTICAS
We meet every week on Saturday afternoon for a tango guided práctica. The prácticas are always free of charge and beginners are welcome, with more experienced dancers available to assist and guide newcomers. The practicas are held at the Dance Studio of Montgomery College Takoma Park Campus, located at 7995 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. The closest Metro station is Silver Spring on the Red Line, which is a 15-20 minute walk from the Campus.
Typically the first hour and a half every Saturday (130pm to 3pm) is devoted to a queer tango class for beginners with little or no experience tango dancing. The rest of the time (until 430pm or 5pm), we play tango music for practice, open to all dancers and dancers from the community at large. From time to time we hold special workshops during this time period. NOTE: We do NOT meet whenever the College is closed (such as during the year end holidays). Please check the calendar below or the Capital Tangueros Calendar to find out about any cancellations.
We host queer milongas (tango dance parties) from time to time in the DC area. All free of charge. Beginners welcome!
